"JETLAG DEBUTS AT THE GOODIES BALLROOM - April 26, 2023"
Jetlag is defined as a temporary disruption of the body's normal biological rhythms after high speed travel through several time zones.
That definition is somewhat accurate, as many people in attendance at the Goodies had their rhythms disrupted, compelling them to the dance floor and participating in a memorable first public appearance by this newly assembled band.
With a hard rock-metal-grunge fusion, this rock cover band performed songs from Ozzy Osbourne, Bush, Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, The Sweet, among others. A heavy metal version of Collective Soul's "Shine" was probably my favorite that night.
As we entered the venue on a recent Saturday night, ladies dressed as flight attendants distributed packages of peanuts and some band members were dressed in airline garments as the quintet opened with the Steve Miller Band's "Jet Airliner"; all of which was only fitting for this band's jet theme. After a few minor sound adjustments to accommodate a high ceiling venue, this intense rock band performed a striking first set which continued to improve into the night.
These seasoned musicians, some who performed together in previous bands, had a jam-packed dance floor most of the night as patrons assembled stage-front from the first to last song. Also, a spectacular light show was noticable by all. I repeat: spectacular.
May I introduce the players and their craft:
Johnny "Jetlag" Reile, lead vocals and theatrics; Greg " Buddha" Millard, guitar and vocals; Barry Spann, guitar and vocals; Kevin Clouser, bass and backing vocals; Jeff Barnhard, drums.
Following the first set, during their break, the musicians greeted the crowd with handshakes, hugs and fistbumps. Many fans complimented their performance with the occasional toasts of spirits and brews. A rock bond between the performers and supporters seemed to be forming.
As the next set commenced, the production continued to get better as everything was in full swing. Dancers again flocked to the floor wanting some of the rhythmic action. The night was festive, cheerful and very lively. Live music fans, curiosity seekers and several off-duty musicians were in attendance.
The large crowd showed their appreciation for the band with rounds of applause following each song and of course, more dancing. The night started winding down with a few pop-rock tunes and they closed with a theatrical cover of "Smokin' in the Boys Room."
"The Goodies" is a well known live music venue and showcases only the best of rock cover bands. The trustees and associates accommodate every need and expectation of their patrons. They have two distinct areas where music entertainment takes place, with plenty of seating.
Do you like your rock hard and loud? If so, I recommend Jetlag. I can anticipate this band becoming increasingly popular. They already have many gigs lined up over the coming months; check their Facebook page, Jetlag Band , for details. You're bound to be impressed.
